Book 14/52 of My #52Books52Weeks Bucket List Challenge
I’ll be honest—this book wasn’t particularly relevant to my goals at the time, which made it harder to get through. And that right there was a massive lesson.
If you’re going to pick up a book, read it, or listen to it, you must have a strong reason why. Otherwise, you’ll struggle to stay engaged, absorb the content, and, most importantly, apply what you learn.
Next time you’re about to start a book, ask yourself:
What’s my intention behind reading this?
How could this map into my life?
What am I aiming to achieve with this?
That said, The Road Less Stupid is packed with powerful insights on decision-making and critical thinking—especially for business owners. Keith Cunningham, a seasoned entrepreneur, breaks down how to avoid stupid mistakes that cost time, money, and energy.
Thinking Time is Critical – Successful people don’t just work hard; they think deeply before making big decisions. Schedule "thinking time" to avoid costly mistakes.
Cash Flow is More Important Than Profit – A business can be “profitable” on paper and still run out of money. Cash flow is what keeps you alive.
Don’t Chase Shiny Objects – Just because something looks like a great opportunity doesn’t mean it aligns with your long-term goals. Stay focused.
Your Business Problems Are Usually Leadership Problems – Most issues stem from poor decisions at the top. Take full responsibility for results.
Avoid Emotional Decision-Making – Don’t make decisions when you’re stressed, overwhelmed, or hyped up. Step back, breathe, and think.
Be Intentional with Your Decisions – Just like in business, in life, you must be deliberate about where you invest your time, energy, and money.
Avoid "Shiny Object Syndrome" with Your Bucket List – It’s easy to get caught up in what looks exciting, but focus on what truly matters to YOU.
Thinking Time Helps You Stay on Track – Whether in business or life, taking time to reflect keeps you from making avoidable mistakes.
Money Mistakes Can Derail Your Dreams – Making poor financial decisions can hold you back from ticking off your Bucket List.
Self-Discipline Creates Long-Term Success – The key to achieving big life goals is not just dreaming big but also executing wisely.
While this book wasn’t the most relevant for me at the time, it reinforced something important: If you don’t think before you act, you’ll waste time, energy, and money fixing avoidable mistakes.
Stay tuned for Book 15 of 52 as I continue this adventure of learning and growth!
