Book 51/52 of My #52Books52Weeks Bucket List Challenge
I read this book for one simple reason: to become a better coach. Since reading it, I’ve recommended it to countless other coaches, speakers, and thought leaders I know. It’s become a bible for me when it comes to coaching.
I probably have more notes written in this book than any other I own. And that’s saying something! In fact, that’s how I read books—I always have a paperback in hand, plus my trusty 4-color pen, underlining, scribbling, and making notes wherever there’s space.
This book flips traditional coaching business models on their head. Instead of selling coaching like a product or offering hourly rates, Steve Chandler & Rich Litvin focus on high-value, transformational coaching relationships.
The core idea? Don’t market. Serve. The best way to build a thriving coaching business is through deep, meaningful conversations, not sales tactics.
Stop worrying about how to “get” clients—focus on serving people powerfully.
Have deep, life-changing conversations with people. The right ones will want to work with you.
Don’t sell coaching like a product—invite people into a coaching experience.
If they feel the transformation firsthand, they’ll want more.
Instead of taking on dozens of low-paying clients, focus on a handful of high-value, high-commitment clients.
Quality over quantity—this allows for deeper transformation and higher income.
Create relationships by serving people for free.
Invite them into a powerful coaching conversation.
Propose working together if there’s a strong alignment.
The more people pay for coaching, the more they value it.
Charging premium rates attracts serious, committed clients who will actually do the work.
Most coaches undercharge and play small because of fear.
Push past imposter syndrome and own your worth.
Instead of spending time on fancy websites, branding, and ads, focus on powerful conversations.
The best marketing is word-of-mouth from people whose lives you’ve changed.
For me, coaching isn’t just a profession—it’s a calling. This book completely changed how I approach coaching, and it’s helped me become a better coach for my clients.
It also reinforced something I’ve always believed: Business should be built around impact and relationships, not just transactions.
If you’re a coach, speaker, or thought leader, I can’t recommend this book highly enough!
