10 Steps To Being A Better Public Speaker

10 Steps To Being A Better Public Speaker

November 28, 20232 min read

Becoming a better public speaker was the big domino that I recognized that I needed to push over in my life. Once pushed over it positively affected a lot of other areas in my life. I knew that if I could confidently speak in public (which was my biggest fear) I could pretty much do anything I set my mind to.

I know this is the case for a lot of my Bucket List audience too. My Bucket List Business Plan coaching program is full of people who want to be a better Speaker and do what I do as The Bucket List Guy, but in their own way. If this is you, grab a time to speak from here. Until then, please read on.

Becoming a better public speaker takes practice and preparation. Here are 10 Tips to help you improve your public speaking skills:

  1. Know your audience: Before you start speaking, take some time to understand who your audience is, what they are interested in, and what they expect from you.

  2. Practice, practice, practice: The more you practice, the more comfortable you will feel speaking in front of a crowd. Practice your speech in front of a mirror or with a friend to get feedback.

  3. Use visuals: Visual aids such as PowerPoint slides or props can help you better engage your audience and keep their attention.

  4. Be confident: Believe in yourself and your message. If you are confident, your audience is more likely to be engaged and interested in what you have to say.

  5. Control your body language: Be mindful of your body language, gestures, and facial expressions. Use them to emphasize important points and to convey confidence.

  6. Speak slowly and clearly: Speaking too fast or mumbling can make it difficult for your audience to understand you. Speak slowly and clearly to make sure your message is getting across.

  7. Use humor: Humor can help break the ice and make your audience feel more comfortable. Use appropriate humor to lighten the mood and connect with your audience.

  8. Engage with your audience: Encourage audience participation and interaction. Ask questions, provide opportunities for discussion, and listen to feedback.

  9. Be prepared for questions: Be prepared to answer questions from your audience. Practice your responses to common questions and be open to feedback.

  10. Keep it simple: Keep your message simple and easy to understand. Avoid jargon and technical terms that your audience may not be familiar with.

Again, my Bucket List Business Plan is for new and established Speakers, Coaches and Authors who want to help a lot of people with their message.
