A lot of people don't know this but becoming a CSP was actually on my Bucket List. Outside the industry of professional speaking, it's hardly recognized. Yet, I worked for years to achieve it. Why? Because all the great speakers that I knew of were CSP qualified and I wasn't. Plus, in a seemingly unregulated industry, it professionalized what I did as a professional speaker for clients and for myself. 

A Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) is a professional designation that was started by the National Speakers Association (NSA) in the United States. It has since spread into the rest of the national speaker professional associations throughout the world seen here on the Global Speakers Association website. The CSP designation is earned by professional speakers who have demonstrated a high level of speaking skill, experience, and professionalism, as well as a commitment to ethical business practices. 

To qualify for the CSP designation, a speaker must have a minimum of five years of professional speaking experience and meet strict criteria in the areas of platform skills, business management, and professional ethics. Candidates must also submit a detailed application that includes references, testimonials, and video footage of their speaking engagements. 

The CSP designation is considered to be the speaking profession's international measure of professional platform skill. It is widely recognized as the highest earned designation in the speaking profession and is held by less than 12% of the thousands of speakers worldwide who belong to the speaking associations around the world.
